ORKNEY THEMED CHARITY BALL RAISES £15000 FOR NEW HOME CAMPAIGN
29th April 2008
An Orkney-themed charity ball raised £15,000 to help build a £3 million cancer support centre in Aberdeen.
The Shore Porters Society Spring Ball, which took place at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels on Saturday, raised the sum for Cancer Link Aberdeen and North (Clan).
All the money will go towards building the Clan Haven, an accommodation unit for cancer patients from Orkney and Shetland, who receive treatment at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The haven will also be used for friends and family accompanying people coming to the city from the isles.
The event was hosted by Orcadian Big Brother winner Cameron Stout.
Susan Crighton, fundraising manager with Clan, said: “We are delighted with this donation, which will go towards building a new haven for patients travelling to Aberdeen for treatment.
“The Orkney theme was a fantastic idea and made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening”.
