Two of the North-east of Scotland’s leading removal firms linked up recently to successfully complete a major move for global oil and gas company Acergy.

The Shore Porters’ Society – which is headquartered in Aberdeen – linked up with fellow city-based firm, Clark & Rose, for the first time, to move all of Acergy’s North-east staff and operations from its existing base in Bucksburn, to its new purpose-built facility at Westhill, in Aberdeenshire.

The move saw the two companies – which have more than 600 years’ industry experience between them – transport more than 500 staff member’s belongings and files, totalling 3,000 crates, as well as furniture and IT equipment, over a four day period.

Euan Cuthbert, a partner with Shore Porters said: “We were originally invited to submit a tender for this work in July – traditionally the busiest time of the year for the removal industry.

“We decided, in consultation with Clark & Rose, that the best way forward would be for the two companies to link-up to ensure we could meet Acergy’s requirements and deadlines.

“We were delighted to be appointed to undertake such a major project and although the move was then subsequently re-scheduled, the end result of this joint venture was a tremendous success.”

Euan added: “It was important for us to make sure disruption for Acergy’s staff was kept to an absolute minimum during the move, especially in terms of the IT shutdown.

“Getting the server equipment up and running again was a priority for the client, with all desktop computers requiring a fast turnaround to get them operational again. This was probably the most challenging aspect of the job with the entire move taking place within a short period of time rather than in several different phases.

“We were delighted with how smoothly the process went, however, and the new Acergy office was up and running by 9am on the Monday morning.”

Clark & Rose manager, Stephen Levitt, said: “Together with Shore Porters, who were the main contractor for this relocation, we agreed that a partnership approach would allow us to deliver the best possible service for Acergy.

“The move itself went extremely well and was very smooth. All of the crews involved worked very well together which made the whole process a lot simpler to deal with from an operational point of view.

“We have always had a very good working relationship with Shore Porters over the years and this has cemented that relationship and made it even stronger. We have talked about the possibility of doing more joint ventures in the future if any similar relocations arise.”

The Shore Porters’ Society is one the UK’s oldest companies, with more than 500 years of removals experience, dealing with local, national and international moves in a variety of sectors including domestic, commercial, antiques, fine art and storage.
