One of the world’s oldest companies, Aberdeen-based removal firm The Shore Porters’ Society, has taken delivery of two rather unique items this week – employees from an Azerbaijan company on a week-long fact-finding mission.
Shore Porters is playing host to Jeyhun Suleymanov, 28, and Dave Shaw, 42 – from Baku-based international moving and freight forwarding company Ace Forwarding Caspian – who have made their way to the Granite City to develop their understanding of the shipping sector and glean new industry specific skills.
The placements were initiated by Ace Forwarding Caspian, which recognised Shore Porters – which was established in 1498 – as leaders of the shipping industry and asked if the employees could shadow the company’s Aberdeen team for a week, in an effort to further enhance their knowledge and abilities.
The two companies have worked together for a number of years, after Ace Forwarding Caspian was established in 1994 to provide a removal service for expats who work within the oil and gas industry in the Baku area.
Colin Davidson, Shore Porters’ overseas removal manager, says the company has been delighted to welcome the employees to Aberdeen.
He said: “As soon as Ace Forwarding Caspian approached us with the request to send Jeyhun and Dave, we were extremely enthusiastic about the trip and keen to provide the guys with a valuable experience, which would assist in equipping them with the very latest industry knowledge.
“Whilst we ourselves have learnt about important issues relating to the Azerbaijan market and key cultural considerations, the placements have also provided us with an opportunity to further strengthen our valued relationship with the company.”
Jeyhun added: “We’ve really enjoyed our time with Shore Porters and have found the trip to be extremely beneficial. As well as developing our skills and knowledge of the shipping sector we’ve had an insight into UK culture and we look forward to applying all we’ve learned to our day-to-day duties back in Baku.”
