MOVING WITH THE MUSIC
9th November 2009 Aberdeen-based removal firm The Shore Porters’ Society recently brought a new meaning to ‘moving with the music’ recently when the company transported a number of antique jukeboxes from the North of Scotland to London.
The project involved Shore Porters collecting four vintage jukeboxes, which were produced in the rock and roll heydays of the 1950s, as well as a number of items also synonymous with the legendary era – including slot machines and one arm bandits – from near Huntly, Aberdeenshire, and delivering them to auctioneers Bonhams’ base in London.
Included within the load was a 1956 Rock Ola jukebox, as well as a 1958 Wurlitzer and two 1958 NSM Fanfare units – all legendary items from a decade which saw the emergence of Elvis and produced the ‘doo wop’ explosion.
The owners of the jukeboxes were keen for each of the items to be passed on to enthusiasts who would appreciate the units, which will be auctioned off by Bonhams – the only auctioneer warehouse which specialises in this type of music memorabilia.
Euan Cuthbert, a partner with Shore Porters, commented: “This was a rather unique project but we’re delighted that, through utilising our experience and expertise in transporting delicate items, we were able to deliver these treasured, vintage pieces so successfully.
“We wish the new owners of these legendary jukeboxes the very best – we’ve no doubt they will enjoy the units for many more years to come.”
