SHORE PORTERS TO CARRY OUT UNIQUE SLEIGH RUN IN SUPPORT OF LOCAL HOMELESS CHARITY

16th December 2009

Aberdeen-based removals and storage company, The Shore Porters’ Society, is set to carry out its own unique sleigh run after coming to the aid of a charity’s Christmas campaign.

The company has lent its support to the Bethany Christian Trust’s ‘Caring Christmas Trees’ initiative, which aims to raise money to fund homeless shelters through the sale of trees.

Shore Porters is assisting the local arm of the charity by transporting free of charge more than 200 trees from a Dunblane farm to two Granite City depots, Craigiebuckler Church and the Bridge of Don Baptist Church, where people from across the North-east will be able to purchase freshly cut, Grade 1 standard, Fraser Fir trees.

Money raised from the sale of the trees will be used to support the local Winter Care Shelters, which Bethany runs at a number of Church venues in and around Aberdeen, providing shelter and food for homeless people.

For the cost of one tree, the charity can provide a homeless person with a hot meal, a bed for the night, breakfast and advice. If more cash is raised than the total amount required to fund the care shelter, the charity will use the extra money to support other work the organisation carries out with homeless and vulnerable people from across the city.

Kevin Brown, a partner of Shore Porters, says he is delighted the company can assist the charity’s festive campaign, through utilising its staff and vehicles to transport the trees.

He said: “It’s great to be able to assist Bethany Christian Church’s ‘Caring Christmas Trees’ campaign, which is an exceptional cause. It is particularly important to think of those less fortunate than ourselves at this time of year and hopefully the initiative is a tremendous success, assisting the charity with continuing its invaluable work.”

The charity’s Miles Paterson added: “We were absolutely delighted when Shore Porters agreed to look after the logistics for Aberdeen’s ‘Caring Christmas Trees’.

“Being our first year selling trees the response has been most encouraging and it will allow us to make a real difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable in our society today.

“We are already looking forward to building on this year’s success and strengthening our partnership with Shore Porters.”
